A week of golf, food and drink in the Elsace region
After a few visits to Turkey we - 5 good friends and I- decided not to travel that far and opted for a 7-day selfcatering holiday to the Elsace region. We rented a chalet with 4 bedrooms, kitchen and living room with al mod cons and a dining corner that brings back memories of skiing holidays. It was a very relaxed and affordable way to live in comfort, wine and dine as you liked and not having to drink-drive back afterwards.

This is an inside joke, the sign displays his surname so we had to do this. On this golfcourse near Colmar there were some very large and tame rats. Not ordinary rats but the type that digs lots of tunnels and damages the dykes in Holland. Please mail me your best guesses for their correct name, because I'm at a loss here. One clue: they were huge!!

On the maps the golfcourses looked quite near to the chalet, but usually it meant an hours drive on winding mountain roads. So most golfcourses contained holes with steep slopes and teeing off from heights like this. This scenic river was a 2-minute crawl down the hill from the chalet.

2 more samples of the steep steep golfcourses. This one at Ammerschwirr was a once in a lifetime experience. I wouldn't come back there if they paid me to. An absolute unfair mickey mouse course with fantastic views and blind shots on every other hole. Even when you are on top of your game you'll be disgusted. On the other hand, if you just want scenic views, this'll be you!

The city of Colmar. Proof of how much this part of France looks like Germany.

The Elsace is famous for its sweet wines. We visited one of the larger wine estates tot have a taste. Hmmm... not bad but I'd prefer a Sancerre anyday. We dined 'in tha house' that was plenty good enough and very relaxed.

The last 2 courses we played were the Club Med resort in Vittel and some other hilly course, I'll be buggered if I remember the name. As this was the first serious bit of golf after the knee surgery in May, this week of golf left me with a feeling of accomplishment and a bunch of strained muscles ;-)). It was fun!
