Costa de la Luz, January 2005
As in the winter of 2004 I visited the Costa de la Luz in Spain for a week of golf. This time around I was accompanied by my good friends Hans and Lia. As our mutual interest also comprises good food and wine I've not managed to shed any weight this week ;-) I've tried to photograph different objects so check Spain January 2004 if you want more of the cultural scenery of Sevilla and Jerez. This year my room came with a hint of a view of the river, as you can see. When we arrived the weather actually looked good enough to try the pool.

But the temperatures dropped gradually from day to day so we didn't do that. Again the water was teeming with mullets, as you can vaguely see. A difficult fish to hook as they mainly feed on algy and weeds. But I managed to catch a few on a breadcrust. Beautiful and strong fishes.

The tidal difference is best demonstrated by these two pics. Because of this there are large tidal areas with lots of specific wildlife. But I'm no David Attenborough so no wildlife for you to see here.

We played four rounds of golf on three different courses, the Castro Marim course twice. Not by choice but that was part of the package holiday we booked. But it is an interesting course with quite a lot of slopes so no regrets there. On the Benamor course I had to pose with these exotic plants. I admit that the shorts were a bit optimistic, but hey, the dutch are tough customers aren't they?!?

In Portugal just across the border we visited St. Luzia. A quiet little fishing town with seagulls guarding the boats. And a very pretty sunset.

On the golfcourses there were quite a lot of catterpillars. A type that you best not touch as the hairs on them cause irritation. They were crawling along in long processions as you can see in the picture on the right.

In Sevilla there is an old ring for bullfights. I walked past it last year and never even noticed it. But from the cathedral tower you get a great view of this historic complex. There's much more to see obviously but as it was a cold cold day we spent a good few hours indoors shopping for shoes. Compared to the rest of Europe however (snow on the beaches of Mallorca!!!) we got lucky with the weather so I won't complain. It was fun and maybe I'll revisit it in 2006.
