Costa de Luz, February 2010

Early February it was time for a winter break. After 2 months of unusually cold weather and ice and snow still covering the ground I couldn't wait for some spring weather. And what better place than the south of Spain?? In 2010 though, you couldn't be more wrong... They had the worst and wettest winter since many years. But I won't complain because in my week of golf there has been just 1 day of solid rain, and apart from that day just a few drops. So it wasn't bad at all. I've visited the area before, though I stayed in different hotels in the previous years. The regular Riu Atlanticu was closed due to maintenance work and this time I stayed at Islantilla golf Hotel, quite a long way from the golfcourse where the golfclinics were at. That was at Castro Marim in Portugal. With 2 hours of golf lessons in the morning and 18 holes of golf in the afternoon this left very little time to do anything else. Like fishing. However I did have a few short sessions fishing for mullet. Though the weather wasn't great for that I did manage to catch quite a few. It is a very strong and fastmoving fish, so that was quite enjoyable as well. In Holland there are quite large specimen around and I've never targeted them here, but I'll give it a try this year.
