Grenaa Denmark, November 2005, not too hot!!

November 17-20 it was time to try a little fishing in Grenaa Denmark. And neither the weather nor the fishing was very hot. I dressed for the winter conditions but wasn't prepared for the lack of fish. When I arrived late Thursday afternoon I was welcomed by a hailstorm. Later at night I tried fishing off the pier at Grenaa Harbour. I expected lots of flatfish and sizable whiting and cod this time of year. But just a dozen of fish were tempted and most of them small fry. Here's proof of the arrival of winter. The picture is of the lodgings just outside Grenaa. Friday during the day I tried some spots near Ebeltoft. Off the pier with the windmills, off the beach and in Ebeltoft harbour. I'm not enough of a tourist to tell you all about that tall ship but it looked nice enough to take a picture. Scenic pics maybe, but not a bite during the entire day. Frustrated? A little.....

Again the night produced better results off the Grenaa pier. No big fish but at last a few pansize fish. All duly released to grow a bit bigger. So the Saturday had to rescue my mission. I had booked a day on the MS Signe hoping for a good catch of cod in deeper waters. However November proved to be no good time for that either. I landed just 6 fish and that was about the average. One above average cod did put a smile on my face. At 80cm in lenght and around 10-11 lbs it is my biggest cod so far. Maybe I'll try this venue again in the early spring when apparantly the cod should be abundant. We'll see.

Scheveningen beach, October 2005

Earlier in the autumn I hoped to catch some nice bass casting off the Scheveningen beach. This has become my favourite kind of fishing. It's also enjoyable that my dad usually comes along as well. This autumn the weather conditions were nice for lots of outdoor activities but not for bass fishing off the beach. However I do seem to get more adept at catching these fish. Either that or the fish aren't getting any smarter. Here's a few exhibits that duly ended up in my kitchen. Fantastic eating fish, the best that I know. It's not why I go fishing but definitely a bonus. We'll see what 2006 will bring along.
